TENNESSEE SQUIRE'S

The Tennessee Squire Association actually dates back to 1956.

"The Tennessee Squire Association was formed many years ago to honour special friends of the

Distillery and their world-famous Tennessee Whiskey. Many prominent business and entertainment

professionals are included amongst its members"

Back in the 1950s, the popularity of Jack Daniel's Tennessee Whiskey began to exceed the available supply.

Even though most people across the country had never heard of a little distillery down in Lynchburg,

Tennessee and the whiskey it made, they started getting curious to see what all the commotion was

about. And once they tried Mr. Jack's finest, well, they soon enough became real friends and loyal

customers. But, unfortunately, with this new popularity, there just wasn't enough Jack Daniel's to

go around, and no quick solution to the problem could be found. It takes a considerable amount

of time (between four to six years) to make, mellow and age Jack Daniel's Tennessee Whiskey.

While they were waiting for the whiskey to age in the barrelhouses, they began writing to their valued

customers to ask for their patience. Not only did their new friends write back, but their letters were

so encouraging and appreciative of distillery's efforts that they just didn't want this mutual admiration

society to end. As a result, the Tennessee Squire Association was founded and its first members

were inducted in 1956.

Although the distillery couldn't provide the thirsty ones with Jack Daniel's Tennessee Whiskey at that

particular time, they could give them a "taste" of Lynchburg - and that's how the friendship

became firmly established. Whiskey shortages are now a thing of the past, but the fellowship

extended by the Tennessee Squire Association continues to this day. Mr. Jack would probably

have said that they did a good job making lemonade when they were handed lemons, but we all

know he preferred something a little stronger!

As a squire, you become an "owner" of an unrecorded plot of land at the Distillery and an honorary

citizen of Moore County. You receive a Deed for this plot as well as a membership

card (both pictured below).

Tennessee Squire Association Code of Ethics

The Tennessee Squire Association, are very proud of their Squire tradition!

Membership in the Tennessee Squire Association to be considered an honor. After all, not everyone who is nominated is accepted into the Tennessee Squire Association – membership in the Squire Association family is reserved for those who have demonstrated their loyalty to Mr. Jack's Tennessee Whiskey over a period of time, as well as their commitment to responsibility.

Only nominees who truly meet the criteria listed on the
Squire Nomination Form are approved for membership. They have follwed this strategy for more than fifty years and because of it have Squire friends in just about every country in the world – all who share a passion for Jack Daniel's and a commitment to being responsible and respected members of their community.

For the past fifty years, the Squire Association has been a circle of friends. To become a Squire, a nominee must be recommended by an existing member of the Squire Association or an employee of Jack Daniel's. For this reason, they ask our Squire friends to avoid publicizing the Squire Association's name and to remember that they are Tennessee Squires at all times.

Selling active Squire credentials (such as plots, deeds, wallet cards, or the promise of membership) is grounds for immediate termination from the Squire Association. They also ask our Squire friends not to sell or give Squire only gifts (such as decanters, coasters, or other items with the Squire logo) to non-Squires.

In addition, Squires should remember that they are ambassadors for Jack Daniel's and promote responsibility in their communities. They are proud of their Squire friends and by preserving the integrity of their membership can they continue to protect and preserve its foundation in the years to
come.
